IN THE LIGHT

The Bible implores believers to follow the guidance of the Holy One. It is incumbent upon each one of us to heed the divine instructions flowing from His throne. Carefully attending to His Words ensures we will not attempt to navigate the darkness of this world in our own strength.
The world wanders in the ruses of righteousness found apart from the Most High, but believers are to seek supervision from the Creator’s supernal truths.
The world wanders in the ruses of righteousness found apart from the Most High, but believers are to seek supervision from the Creator’s supernal truths.
Scripture refers to this heavenly guidance by the term OHR “light.” This word is used continuously for the flow of teaching that comes from the Holy One.
As light allows for clarity of information, so do His teachings offer a knowledge to navigate this world. This light is a metaphor for the Torah.
This is expressed beautifully in the words of Psalm 119:105.
This is expressed beautifully in the words of Psalm 119:105.
His Word provides an illuminated direction for the path we travel. By adhering to His precepts, our walk will be lit with a trustworthy glow to maneuver among the steps of life.
This is echoed in the words of Moses in Deuteronomy 30:19-20.
19 I make to witness with you today the heavens and the earth. Life and death I have set before you: the blessing and the curse. And choose with life, so that you shall live—you and your seed--
The Creator's heavenly light offers this blessing. The Torah illuminates our time so it can be the best possible human experience and prepare us to be citizens of an eternal Kingdom.
The psalmist asserts in Psalm 89:15 that we who are attentive to the Creator’s leading are blessed to have our journey brightened by His influence in our lives.
The psalmist asserts in Psalm 89:15 that we who are attentive to the Creator’s leading are blessed to have our journey brightened by His influence in our lives.
The light coming forth from Him—from the revelation of His will flowing in His Word—illuminates our walk as we seek the moments infused with His Presence.
Isaiah 2:5 speaks of the summons to respond as His people to this teaching that makes all aspects of our life experienced in the framework of the transcendent.
If we will remain in the light, He shines on our steps so that we know with certainty how to proceed. If we stray into the shadows beyond the halo of His leadership then we can be assured His discipline will draw us back into the radiant walk of obedience.
Hosea 6:5 speaks of how He handles His transgressing people.
The prophet’s words are convicting calls to return, cutting us to our core so we have no choice but to seek the only One who can heal us. These moments of judgment are thus a source of light redirecting to the beacon of His blessings.
We will inevitably need His mercies, and so the blessing placed upon His people promises a radiance will shine over us, as seen in Numbers 6:25.
Should our trek take us into areas of uncertainty, the light of His Word provides the sufficient standard to assess those darkening the path by their deceptions.
This is made clear in the words of Isaiah 8:20.
Those who are not His—the nations of the world—are unable to illumine their souls with the light of the perverse truth in which they walk. Rather, they are in an inescapable darkness if they refuse to acknowledge the eternal truths of His Word.
This is the situation facing mankind: His people walk in the light of eternal truth, while all others are in darkness with a false light leading their way. The summons to the true light is open to all before judgment falls.
It is a reality stated bluntly in the words of Isaiah 50:10-11.
10 Who among you fears YHWH, obedient at [the] voice of His servant, who walks [in] darkness, and has no light? He should rely on [the] name of YHWH, and rest in his Deity.
11 See! all you kindling fire, encompassed [by] sparks. You must walk in [the] light of your fires and in the sparks you have kindled. From My hand you shall have this: afflicted you shall lie down! |
Some in this world forge their own way in spite of the warning sounded for the consequence of ignoring the truth—they are wholly estranged from the Creator, spiritual foreigners to His light that is shining far more brilliantly than whatever meager fires they have lit.
So it is that those in darkness worship a light of infinitely less luminosity: they are guided by powers that can only provide an insufficient spiritual instruction for mankind.
This is hinted at in the previous Scripture in the term ZIKOT “sparks,” the singular being ZIKAH “spark.” While this is its general meaning in Hebrew, its Aramaic cognate is ZIKA, and in that form shows its broader usage of a "comet" or a "shooting star."
This hints to the reality behind those who are not His people, yet who seek truth elsewhere.
It is explained in Deuteronomy 4:19-20 with an incredible revelation of what is really going on in this world.
It is explained in Deuteronomy 4:19-20 with an incredible revelation of what is really going on in this world.
20 Yet, you YHWH has taken, and brought you forth from the iron furnace—from Mitzrayim—to be for Him for a people, an inheritance, as it is this day.
The Creator cautions Israel against worshiping the elements of creation above. Those lights are given for sources of worship to those who are not part of His people! This easily overlooked detail shows what is really occurring in reality.
Attention to anything other than the Creator is idolatry forbidden for His people to partake in. The reason is that while the objects are physical in nature, they are merely natural manifestations of a supernatural truth.
All heavenly objects—stars, planets, comets, and meteors—are at times referred to by a generic term in the Hebrew language: KOCHAV “star.”
However, the Hebrew term KOCHAV “star” is also used to refer to a spiritual power in Scripture: a heavenly being [see: Judges 5:20; Isaiah 14:12; Job 38:7; Daniel 8:10; Amos 5:26; Mark 13:25; Revelation 1:20, 8:10 & 12, 9:1, 12:4].
Revering heavenly objects is truly heinous, for far from a lifeless stone or wooden idol the luminaries are physical representatives of actual spiritual beings. This may be an odd thought to even consider, but as the study develops, the assertion will be shown to be Scripturally valid. Worshiping them therefore validates a literal divine power in the spiritual hierarchy forbidden to His people. This is something we cannot partake in.
The words of Deuteronomy 4 above reveal the astonishing truth that the people of the world who do not follow the Creator are given over to the spiritual authority of those celestial divine beings who they shall worship in some way or another. These angelic beings operate in an authority and in a principality by which they thus rule the nations.
This is most blatantly seen in the eye-opening words of Psalm 82.
This is most blatantly seen in the eye-opening words of Psalm 82.
4 You must rescue [the] poor and oppressed; from [the] hand of the wicked you must snatch them away.
5 They do not know, and neither do they understand—in darkness they walk. All the foundations of earth totter.
6 I said, “You are deities, and sons of the Highest are you all!”
7 However, as Adam you shall die, as one of the princes you shall fall.
8 You must arise, Deity; You must judge the earth, for you shall inherit among all the nations!
Here in this psalm is a glimpse of heavenly realms—an assembly of divine beings presided over by the Creator. These lesser beings are BENEI ELYON “sons of the Highest.”
This title is one of several Hebrew Scripture uses for a certain class of angelic being. Other titles are BENEI EILIM “sons of mighty ones” [see: Psalm 29:1; 89:6], and BENEI HA’ELOHIM “sons of the Deity” [see: Job 1:6].
These “son”-based titles are not meant literally but refer to a group of idiomatic expressions in Hebrew and Aramaic, where “son of” signals a diminished nature than the term to which it is linked. Hence, “sons of the Deity,” “sons of Mighty Ones,” and “sons of the Highest” refer to those “Stars” in the spiritual realm.
For clarity, examples of “son of”-based idioms in the Biblical languages include:
These three Hebrew titles of “sons of the Deity,” “sons of Mighty Ones,” and “sons of the Highest” highlight the uniqueness of these “Stars” in heaven’s hierarchy. They are not the Creator but created heavenly beings granted rights over parts of creation.
The content in Psalm 82 is important in that in addition to this revelation of their world-wide role, it is revealed the Creator is utterly offended with how they oversee their reigns. They rule unjustly over their portions, skewing lines of right and wrong and wreaking havoc upon the natural laws of the universe. Creation suffers from their collective failure as they rule in dark truths while worshiped as light.
Their very ability to reign in the first place is seen in Luke 4:5-7.
5 And Satana raised him up to a high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the earth in a brief time.
6 And the Eater of Slander said to him, “To you I shall give this authority—all of it—and the glory of it, which is delivered to me. And to whom that I desire, I give it to him. 7 If, therefore, you shall bow before me, all of it shall be your own.” |
Satan usurped from man all his divine authority in Genesis 3. In that position of power he has the right to delegate the seized creation as he sees fit.
This was the fulfillment of his dark desire, which is mentioned in Isaiah 14:13.
He sought in his pride to be seated upon the “Mountain of Appointed Time.”
Notice also he intended to place his throne “above the stars of [the] Deity.”
These are not physical stars, but rather, angelic powers—those divine beings called “Stars.” While the spiritual purpose behind the stars has been clarified in this study, consider now the physical purpose of stars, as stated in Genesis 1:14.
The purpose of stars, planets, and all other celestial phenomena includes also signaling “appointed times”—the exact same term in Isaiah 14:13 about Satan’s intent to seize spiritual authority on the Mount of Appointed Time. Essentially, Satan’s reign entails usurping the flow of spirituality to mankind and harnessing it in a perverse purpose against all the Creator’s image-bearers. This he does by utilizing the created, physical celestial objects for his own spiritual purposes, deceiving man into believing they are worthy of our esteem.
This deceptive spiritual tactic is expressed in 2nd Corinthians 11:14.
His reign is rotten, and that spoiled spirituality infects every angelic being under him. Due to this corruption of their legitimate right to reign, the Creator’s dissatisfaction includes a judgment upon the heavens, as revealed in Job 15:15.
These “holy ones” are assessed as untrustworthy, revealing that regardless of title, the ever-spreading darkness of their divine defilement means even the heavenly realms are infected with impurity. The stars are set in a defiled cosmos.
Paul wrote of these corrupted powers in Galatians 4:3 & 8-9.
3 Thus, even we, while youths, under the elemental-beings of the world were subjugated. … 8 For then, while you were not knowing the Deity, you served them who, by their nature, are not deities, 9 yet now that you have known the Deity, and more so, that you are known by the Deity, you again return unto those elemental-beings—afflicted and impoverished—and from that ruler you are desiring to be subjugated to them?! |
These “elemental-beings” rule over people prior to coming to faith and are specifically said to be “not deities.” Verses 3 and 9 have the term ESTUCHSE “elemental-beings,” which is the Aramaic form of the Greek STOICHEIA.
The worship of these powers was prolific in antiquity, as Paul also chastised the Colossians for returning to the false light they held in Colossians 2:18-23.
18 And lest a man should desire by humility of mind to condemn you, that you be subjugated to the service of angels, by presuming concerning a thing that he has not seen, and is emptily puffed up in the mind of his flesh,
19 and is not grasping the Head—He who from whom all the body is constructed and established—in joint, and in limb, and is increasing in the increase of the Deity. 20 For if you have died with the Messiah from the elemental-beings of the world, why, as if that you lived in the world are you judged? 21 ‘Surely do not touch!’ and ‘Do not taste!’ and ‘Do not follow!’ 22 For these are of perishable usage, and they are commandments of the teachings of the sons of man, 23 and it appears that there is in them a matter of wisdom, with the face of humility, and the fear of the Deity, and of not sparing concerning the body—never in a thing that is of value, but rather, in those whose usage is of the flesh. |
Paul’s outrage focused on believers being re-convinced of the pseudo-spiritual teachings those lesser powers promote after being liberated from their influence by turning to the true Source of spiritual light. The ability of these powers to subjugate humans through such appealing influence is founded in the Hebrew term for the unique nature behind them, as seen in Job 38:32.
The first question asks about the twelve major constellations of the ecliptic. The Hebrew term MAZZAROT is usually translated "constellations," but really means “Consecrated Ones.”
Based on the root NAZAR, MAZZAROT signifies those appointed for a specific purpose, and also has the notion of “abstaining” from certain mundane actions while consecrated, and is the basis for the term NAZIR “Nazirite” in Numbers 6—wherein the avowed is forbidden from specific things.
This spiritual appointment and tendency to abstain hints to the MAZZAROT as the physical constellations representing the divine beings teaching the false-humility of types of asceticism. It involves divine truths mingled with falsehoods, and so cannot be trusted as a sustained source for spiritual direction. While many believers place no veracity upon the constellations (the zodiac) as having any influence at all, there is truly a real spiritual hierarchy (the various BENEI ELYON / BENEI EILIM / BENEI HA'ELOHIM / ESTUCHSE ~ STOICHEIA) at work behind them that does indeed affect the lives of people who place their trust in the limited spiritual illumination they can provide.
Their guidance can even variously be for the good or the bad, but ultimately, it is based on a lesser spiritual power acting behind the physical for their own selfish purposes for mankind. If an individual is estranged from the Most High, those spiritual influences are the only ones available to be relied upon, therefore binding such people to those sources of inadequate supernal authority and preventing them from looking elsewhere for the eternally trustworthy Source of all truth that is contained in the Creator's Word.
The term MAZZAROT is also referred to as MAZZALOT in 2nd Kings 23:5, in a passage about the efforts of King Josiah to abolish the nation’s idolatrous focus.

This version of MAZZALOT, while nearly identical to the term MAZZAROT, is wholly different in its literal definition, being “Flow-Spouts.”
The term MAZZALOT is the plural of MAZAL, and signifies a heavenly source of power or influence that is disseminated upon a person for the good or for the bad.
Just as MAZZAROT alludes to the “consecrated” and “abstaining” aspects of divine powers ruling as deceptive lights, so too does MAZZALOT as a source of flowing show the agenda of spiritual entities behind the physical stars being exacted upon the peoples of earth through various methods.
Surprisingly, in this topic exists research from secular science that strongly attests to the very real impact such "stars" have upon this planet.

Surprisingly, in this topic exists research from secular science that strongly attests to the very real impact such "stars" have upon this planet.
In the peer-reviewed journal, Izvestiya, Atmospheric and Oceanic Physics, there appeared in 2014 the research paper entitled "On the statistical relationship between solar activity and spontaneous social processes." Its authors reviewed periods of revolution and political upheaval in conjunction with the known solar activity of the sun's cycle. Amazingly, the conclusion of the study showed "relatively higher values of solar and, hence, geomagnetic activity are typical of the starting years of social cataclysms." The text ended by asserting a confirmation that "heliogeomagnetic disturbances contribute to (trigger) the development of already mature social conflicts but do not generate these conflicts themselves."
Included is a graph from the paper cited above showing the alignment of sunspots during solar maximum and solar minimum cycles and the occurrence of particularly meaningful incidents of social unrest throughout the world. Annotations in blue are my own for clarification of data.
The consensus of the researchers is that the sun's energetic interplay upon the electromagnetic fields of the earth seems to exacerbate existing temperaments of mankind into episodes of insurrection and national crises. This is a purely physical perception of obviously far greater spiritual strategies being enacted upon the earth, but it sufficiently shows the influence of a "heavenly" presence upon human behavior.
Similarly, in the journal Environmental Science and Pollution Research, a paper was submitted in 2021 entitled "Revealing the relationship between solar activity and COVID-19 and forecasting of possible future viruses using multi-step autoregression (MSAR)." It looked at disease outbreaks in conjunction with solar activity, and made two very astounding claims: "Solar activity, including total solar radiation and X-ray flares, correlates sunspot numbers so that the solar magnetic field and solar wind affect the Earth to originate viruses," as well as, "We can conclude that sunspot extrema coincide with the pandemics’ first appearance probably because of mutation on virus DNA or generation of a new virus."
The accompanying graphic as sourced from the paper cited above shows the alignment of solar maximum cycles with emergent pandemics in orange and solar minimum cycles with emergent pandemics in green.
The research from both widely disparate fields of study display an incredibly harmonious conclusion: energy flowing from the sun directly impacts the behavior and well-being of mankind in very real ways. The physical merely reflects the spiritual, and the evidence from these insightful fields of research displays just how widespread are the principalities and powers at work in the world.
Curiously, Revelation 19:17 depicts an angelic power in direct connection with the sun whose purpose is to guide creations on the earth (a detail seen as that chapter continues on).

Once these factors of the angelic authorities existing over the world is properly perceived, it becomes quite obvious why the New Testament spoke of humans being subjugated "under the elemental-beings of the world" [as shown above in Galatians 4:13 & 8-9], or "subjugated to the service of angels" [as shown above in Colossians 2:18].
This important perspective also helps to clarify what Paul meant when he emphasized that humans without faith in the Creator are essentially "enslaved" to sin, as seen in particular in Romans 6:16.

A servant must obey his master. A slave to sin must therefore heed the desires of his iniquitous overlords, and such are they who rule over the kingdom of darkness as false lights to the deceived. They exert a flow of spiritual and physical power over the peoples of the nations who do not live by faith in the only One worthy of man's allegiance, as has been shown in this study by both Scripture and scientific evidence.
Paul wrote about this freedom of believers from such bondage in Colossians 1:12-13.
Paul wrote about this freedom of believers from such bondage in Colossians 1:12-13.
This unique protection for believers from the MAZZALOT is clarified in the Talmud Bavli, Shabbat 156a, which asserts the oral tradition of the words of the Creator to Abraham when the new believer perceived from astrological signs that destiny did not show a son ever coming from his own genetic line. Regardless of what the "stars" showed in their signs, the Creator revealed to Abraham a higher truth concerning the person who puts their faith in Him.
The reassurance of Abraham being able to have a son from his own body in spite of what was apparently written in the stars for him is due to the divine covenant to which he was bound. By abandoning the idolatry of his family to instead pledge his faith to the world's Creator, he was also summarily removed from the influence they would normally exert over his life.
That special spiritual position meant that his descendants--all who are under the direct guidance of the Creator Himself--enjoy freedom from the influences flowing upon mankind from the angelic dominions reigning over the earth. Regardless what decisions the MAZZALOT over the nations might decree for the world the people trusting the Most High are not enslaved to them. While one person may be bound by their zodiac-derived destinies, he who follows the Creator has the advantage to rise above elemental edicts and find a higher plan for his life wholly untethered by the limitations of beings who, while heavenly in nature, are still yet also created beings.

Thankfully, although Israel walks in the light of the Creator, and all other nations walk in the light of lesser created divinities—things do not stay that way forever!
The spiritual light enjoyed by His people will spread, as proclaimed in Isaiah 51:4.
The spiritual light enjoyed by His people will spread, as proclaimed in Isaiah 51:4.
The Creator implores His people to be attentive to His restorative work: a matter of divine judgment results in light shining forth to all peoples of the earth! Those withering under the reigns of wicked powers will not be oppressed by flickering lights forever—a time will come when all mankind will be illuminated and know the truth without question.
This is made clear in Psalm 66:3-4.
4 All the earth shall worship You, and they shall sing to You; they shall sing [to] Your name!” Selah.
All nations worshiping the Holy One will be blessed by the Creator’s light shining into the dark. This light is not merely a knowledge of His teachings—His Torah—but rather, it entails something far greater, as Isaiah 49:6 explains.
This refers to the Messiah and his mission’s amazing scope: to shine Torah’s truths so brightly in Himself that the nations of the earth also benefit eternally! It is because of the work of revelation the Messiah shall perform in the earth that the nations of this world will be rescued! What will they be rescued from? Vain worship of created beings that are not worth the spiritual esteem man gives to them! Such beings shall be cast aside so mankind can unite in worship of the only One worth our adoration.
This began to be fulfilled with the ministry of Yeshua, as hinted at in John 8:12.
Jews and Gentiles together will enjoy from Yeshua’s special position the radiant purpose planned for mankind, as the words of Isaiah 9:2 so beautifully express.
This passage is paraphrased and applied to Yeshua’s ministry in Matthew 4:16. Even those in darkness will benefit from the spiritual fidelity Yeshua exhibited in his earthly life. The offer of his inimitable merit to all who are spiritually near or far means humanity can hope to not linger forever in the kingdom of darkness.
Yeshua is the only person to have rectified Adam’s embarrassing loss and earth’s usurping by principalities proven unqualified to administer justice to the people. This correction by the orchestration of the Creator will reclaim creation with His original intent intact: for man to rule in righteousness as His earthly image.
Ephesians 1:20-21 speaks of what He has accomplished through His light infused into Yeshua to reach the entire world.
20 …that which He performed in the Messiah, and He raised him up from the house of the dead, and He placed him at His right hand in the heavens,
21 above all the principalities, and the authorities, and the powers, and the masters, and above every name that is named—not only in this world, but even in the [one] prepared. |
Yeshua’s radiant merit as the Messiah exceeds everyone. One day all will admit the only worthy light is the Creator’s brilliant illumination shining through a man fully devoted to His ways. He holds the beacon of pure instruction—the Torah in sublime application—and with it the world will become wholly transcendent when all opposing lights are quenched at last.
No other source of truth is comparable to the Creator’s incandescent instruction for mankind. Creation has only one route to a luminous future, and that is to walk faithfully in the light that will never be extinguished.
